The deadliest crash of this year was a military shootdown, namely the 1968 Kham Duc C-130 shootdown, when a United States Air Force Lockheed C-130B Hercules was shot down in southern Vietnam on 12 May, during the Vietnam War, killing all 189 people on board; it was at the time the deadliest plane crash of all time.
