Origin of Lars Magnus Ericsson [heading added later]

[edit]

where is Lars Magnus Ericssons birthplace? Fathers and Mothers names? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.252.5.66 (talk) 11:34, 10 April 2006

He was born in Norrtomta gård in Vämskog, Värmland, Sweden. His fathers name was Erik Eriksson (1804-1858, Yes Eriksson with K) and he was a Hemmansägare, a farmer who owned his own farm, from Vegerbol. His mother was called Maria Jonsdotter (1810 - ca1859) from Mosterud. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.224.177.69 (talk) 23:19, 10 June 2006

NPOV [heading added later]

[edit]

I tagged the main section as NPOV for phrases like this: "our extensive portfolio of telecommunication solutions and intellectual property offer a true business advantage". Wikipedia is not the place for true business advantages. Alpine 21:21, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Erlang

[edit]

Why is there no mention of the Erlang programming language on this page? Ericsson created it ffs.

Sprint

[edit]

ERIC did not "take over" in July, they only announced it. It wont happen for months. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.255.27.90 (talk) 23:55, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ericsson Article needs a lot of Work

[edit]

This article seems unbalanced,in that too much space is devoted to some topics (e.g. "Shareholder Changes") that are irrelevant and there are big gaps in time (e.g. from 1901 to 2001 in the "Industrial Expansion" section). Very little attention is paid to switching and transmission systems, which are the main parts of the telecom business, while there is too much detail about telephone instruments. In reality, for every dollar spent on handsets at least ten dollars are invested in the supporting infrastructure. The text needs some serious pruning. The comment, in " Market Development", that "Ericsson's presence and manufacturing facilities in Britain allowed it to get most of the contracts" does not ring true. There were, at least, two other major telephone system manufacturers in Britain from the early days, both American controlled; namely AT&E, of Liverpool, and Western Electric (later ST&C), of North London. <See www.britishtelephones.com/histauto.htm>. Siemens and Philips (through TMC) were also active in the UK. GEC and Plessey were major players after World War II. In the late 1960s, British Ericsson (which had been independent of LM Ericsson since the 1940s) was bought out by Plessey and amalgamated with AT&E and in 1989 Plessey Communications was joined with GEC's Telephone division, to form GPT. The circle was then closed, as GEC combined GPT with its own Marconi, allowed that operation to go bankrupt within a few years and then sold it all back to LM Ericsson. The "Further Development" section is too brief, as it covers the years from 1930 to 2000 in just two sentences. For example, Ericsson did a lot of development on crossbar systems - it's still not clear whether the Bell System or Ericsson really invented crossbar switches, in the late 1930s.. However it's certainly NOT correct to state that"Ericsson crossbar switching equipment is the main stay of many telephone administrations . . around the world. ". By the early 1990s most electromechanical systems had been replaced by digital, electronic, central offices and PBXs - so Ericsson lost market share. John Roger A. Euros or dollars

[edit]

Please, can you translate the economic indicators to euros or dollars because nobody (apart from the Swedes) knows what is the exchange of a SEK.--83.37.194.197 (talk) 01:36, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I realize that this is an old suggestion, but it needs to be pointed out that this is a lousy idea. Exchange rates vary widely over time and unless one is certain what the SEK was worth in another currency, such as the USD, at the time of any specific deal and use that particular exchange rate for conversion, you are likely to end up with figures that are completely incorrect. As for the Euro, it didn't even exist for most of the history of this company, so that is not even possible. --Hegvald (talk) 14:39, 8 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mid 2000s

[edit]

According to the last sentence before the TOC, Ericsson recovered in the mid-2000s. That would be in about 488 years from now.. 120.151.109.148 (talk) 06:19, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

This entire article sounds like an advertisement. It's just as difficult to find actual non-marketing information here as it was on Ericsson's website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.162.21.120 (talk) 06:37, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Weasel + peacock terms

[edit]

This article is full of weasel words and WP:Peacock terms ("Ericsson’s strength in other mobile standards", "Ericsson continued to ride the wave", software giant's web browser"). Is this plagiarised from a press release or a primary source? Either way, I tried to clean up a few paragraphs, but the article is long and needs a lot more work. -- Rohini (talk) 14:27, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Patent infringment litigation cases around the world

[edit]

There is absolutely no information about the patent infringment cases Ericsson is involved in. The article is missing a major dimension. There is one reference to a lawsuit between Ericsson and Qualcomm, but nada otherwise. Whitewashing, much? -- Rohini (talk) 14:30, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please add the missing content! Everyone is welcome to contribute. Jolta (talk) 13:34, 26 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
