Science, or Science & Technology?

[edit]

I gather that several of the museums listed in this article, as well as in Category:Science museums, are in fact museums of science and technology. That is, it seems the word "science museum" really means "museum of sci. & tech.". In light of this, do you think it would be OK to place misc. computer museums in said category? Based on the feeling in the deep of my soul I must admit I really don't like it—I'd much prefer "Science and technology museums", since many if not most computer museums collect/store/display computer hardware and documentation (and to some degree, software), which are for the most part items of technology rather than of science. So what say you? Should we simply put computer museums and other tech museums in the science museums category, or "move" that category to the name given above? Please tell me what you think about this. --Wernher 23:43, 13 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I have since created a Category:Computer museums, quite independent of noticing this comment just now.--Pharos 10:58, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I just wonder why it´s called science museums instead of science centers? The way I see it, museums are hands-off, but science centers are hands-on.
There is a brief extra entry Science center, but I propose moving its content here. While some science museums are more hands-on than others, I can't think of any that have no hands-on component. Markus Poessel 09:08, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have just created a new article, technology museum, as that type of museum appears to be distinct from a science museum. Bahnfrend (talk) 15:59, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Page Revision

[edit]

Hi All, Over the next couple of weeks I'm going to do some work on inline citations and perhaps a little additional editing. If anyone has any suggestions for changes or additions, I'll be grateful to receive them. You can just message me here. jepercival (talk) 02:44, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you're still working on this, I'd suggest an update of the external links, including the Map, the Science Center News site (which hasn't been updated since 2008) and the Yahoo list that is really out of date. ASTC has a better, more up to date list of centers and museums that seems like it would be better to use: https://www.astc.org/find-a-science-center/ Geoffhunt3 (talk) 21:12, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
