Literary language

[edit]

Does "It is a literary language" simply mean that Mari has a written form? If not, what does it mean? I think that should be explained better. Dbenbenn 20:16, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Please see Literary language. — Hippietrail 07:13, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are, in fact, two literary language norms attested. One accommodates Eastern and Meadow Mari (mhr), while the other is Hill Mari, also known as Western Mari (mrj). For the non-native speaker, some of the most salient distinctions include: (1) a vowel shift/rotation (phonology); (2) plural marking; number, case and possessor indices ordering (morphology), as well as (3) vocabulary. Versions of Mari

[edit]

Perhaps these should be split off of each other and this page made into a disambiguation page? There are some major differences between the two.

I'm currently working on a Multilangual dictionary ... 2000+ entries for Meadow Mari --> English, German, Estonian. Still in a development stage, but added a link to the article - http://mari.finno-ugristik.at/dict.html ChiLlBeserker (talk) 21:36, 3 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mari language template

[edit]

If you are a native speaker of Mari then you can help translate this template into your own language:

mhrТиде пайдаланышын марий йылме шочмо улеш.

Illative

[edit]

Should the illative пӧртышкем be translated as 'into my house' -- would it not be 'to my house'? Silver starfish (talk) 10:09, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
