Since this is the English wiki, and since dumpling is an ordinary English word with a dictionary definition, shouldn't the article primarily be about what dumplings are in English-speaking countries? All of the food from other countries that is remotely like dumpling should go into some international food subheading. The things being categorized as dumplings from other countries should have some English source that calls them dumplings, otherwise it's just original research.   — Chris Capoccia TC 10:31, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, the article shouldn't be only about dumplings in English-speaking countries.
But, yes, the article should be restricted to what English speakers would recognise as a "dumpling" in whatever country. For example, whatever an English-language travel guidebook would call a "dumpling" is eligible.
In the same way that a "famous bridge" in Germany or Japan can be included on an English-language page about famous bridges, even if Germans and Japanese people wouldn't use that phrase themselves.
There are some things listed in the current article that I wouldn't have thought of as dumplings (e.g. gnocchi) ...but I'm no dumpling expert.

On the gnocchi page it says its a dumpling, but there's some other things like zongzi that I'm pretty sure nobody considers a dumpling. 8greencephalopods (talk) 20:54, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently people call zongzi "sticky rice dumplings" according to the Wikipedia page about zongzi. 8greencephalopods (talk) 21:00, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

add some content in Chinese part

[edit]

Dumplings i originated from jiaozi in ancient China, also known as "jiao'er". It is a traditional pasta of the Han nationality in China. It has a history of more than 1800 years. Dumplings are deeply loved by the Chinese people. They are also the staple food of the people in northern China and the food for new year's festivals. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yifannn (talkcontribs) 01:48, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Georgian alphabet is not displaying correctly

[edit]

In the entry for khinkali, the second to last letter in the Georgian name (ლ) is incorrect. Strangely, it's impossible to type in the letter and it won't even paste from Google translate. 000Lynn000 (talk) 00:36, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Corn dogs

[edit]

Are corn dogs dumplings? A hot dog is a sandwich. 108.21.243.41 (talk) 00:17, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ridiculousness of this article and talk page

[edit]

Dumplings, and many of the things posited to be dumplings, are all part of the super-category of "Wheat with filling". Not all members of that category are dumplings, dumplings are within the category. PLEASE STOP. 46.7.119.86 (talk) 00:53, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
