There Is No Evidence That Cortes Was Born in December

[edit]

Back in June of 2023 someone suspiciously added that Cortes was born in December. They didn't provide a source and there doesn't seem to be one that exists. Last paragraph before Table of Contents

[edit]

This paragraph: "Because of the controversial undertakings of Cortés and the scarcity of reliable sources of information about him, it is difficult to describe his personality or motivations. Early lionizing of the conquistadors did not encourage deep examination of Cortés. Later reconsideration of the conquistadors in the context of modern anti-colonial sentiment has done little to enlarge understanding of Cortés. As a result of these historical trends, descriptions of Cortés tend to be simplistic, and either damning or idealizing."

It sounds very neutral, but it comes off to me as an editorial or the conclusion someone would be making at the end of their academic paper. Which would be fine if it came after comparing a variety of different sources, but it comes right after a fairly descriptive introduction of his life, and then stands out as someone's opinion of the various interpretations of Cortés without any of those interpretations or any sources really. 198.91.10.180 (talkcontribs) 10:13, 12 June 2018‎ (UTC)[reply]

Pregnancy of the interpreter

[edit]

In the lede there's a mention that the woman he "used" as an interpreter later "bore his first son". Women do not "bore" offsprings for their men and the son was not just "his" - it is a demeaning language for women and it should be changed. For example "she gave birth to their first son" would be much better. Ellegony (talk) 15:52, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
