The following discussion comes from Wikipedia:Categories for deletion. This is an archive of the discussion only; please do not edit this page. The decision was to move Category:Minnesota Musicians to Category:Minnesota musicians.

Improperly capitalized, should be Category:Minnesota musicians. -- Rick Block 18:29, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

  • Yes. I think also that the description and criteria for inclusion for this and all similar People from X state subcategories need to be narrowed. A musician whose only connection to Minnesota is that he was born there is not a "Minnesota musician" in any meaningful sense (I haven't checked to see how well the currently included articles fit in this case). People should only be included in State subcategories of professions if they actually practiced their profession there to a significant extent, or their profession was about it in some way. Stephen King is a perfect example: he is very properly put in Category:Maine writers because he has lived there his whole life, writes from there, and many if not most of his books take place in Maine. Any suggestions about how to effectively police and focus these categories? Postdlf 00:03, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
  • Shouldn't this be Category:Muscians of Minnesota? Guettarda 20:40, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
The only other "by state" musician category in Category:United States musicians is Category:California musicians which is not a tremendously compelling precedent. More compelling is that all Category:Musicians by nationality are of the form "<country> musicians". Then again, if we're actually going to standardize "by country" categories per Beland's suggestion below then perhaps "by state" categories should similarly be standardized. I'm fine either way (even deleting this category would be fine with me), but one way or another "Minnesota Musicians" needs to be changed. -- Rick Block 23:15, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
