Question: @331dot: Does it not warrant a block per WP:IMPERSONATE if the Joyce Borenstein article is a BLP about a notable person? Unless there is off-wiki communication that has verified their identity? --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 14:07, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
If someone else thinks differently that's fine with me, but my thinking is that the name is so detailed that, unless there is other evidence that it might be someone else operating the account, that a block is not necessary for the name(that leaves aside the COI issues). 331dot (talk) 14:19, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
I agree with 331dot. This is a COI issue, not a username issue. Cullen328 (talk) 17:46, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Persistent block evasion. '''[[User:CanonNi]]''' (talkcontribs) 04:19, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Reason: High level of IP unconstructive edits. DareshMohan (talk) 06:58, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection: Important bio aricle. Lahsim Niasoh (talk) 08:30, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Ip adress vandalising the articles. Monhiroe (talk) 08:41, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Heavy unsourced additions by IPs. Semi for one week recommended. Thewikizoomer (talk) 03:29, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
Should be made ECP; User:Ilaksh22 (autoconfirmed editor) is now edit-warring about adding BO figures with an unreliable source. Reverted by both me and another editor (Charliehdb); but, still adding it back. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 13:21, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Wikipedialuva (talk) 10:27, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Protection required to prevent repeated addition of a non RS, non BLP compliant attack page. Axad12 (talk) 14:46, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Semi-protection: Consistent vandalism from IPs and new users due to the online "Ironland" movement. RyanAl6 (talk) 19:34, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Temporary create protection: Repeatedly recreated. Jdcomix (talk) 19:38, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Semi-protection: ip user persistently attempting to make a change without discussing. i believe protection might lead them to the talk page. cogsan (nag me) (stalk me) 19:57, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

for the record, i don't know of any interval. the edits seem to be sporadic (could be a day, could be a month), so i won't make any suggestions for time cogsan (nag me) (stalk me) 20:02, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Temporary pending changes: Persistent vandalism. Some1 (talk) 22:59, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Reason: High level of vandalism from IPs or SPA, attempting to promote a non-notable Youtuber called Koifish. ⁂CountHacker (talk) 23:52, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Jdcomix (talk) 00:46, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Continuous IP and user vandalism of removing content - the page being viewed by many users recently due to a current event. JoshuaJ28 (talk) 01:08, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Blocked IP hopper can't stop themselves. Nswix (talk) 02:01, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Indefinite semi protection requested considering the edit history scenario. Thewikizoomer (talk) 03:32, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – After a COI editor wasn't permitted to add promotion to this article, they've written a blog post that is sending their users to Wikipedia. Please semiprotect to give this some time to blow over. MrOllie (talk) 03:45, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Reason: The page has more than 1000 views per day on average. Some IP and non-confirmed users keep changing the images without valid reason. It needs high level of protection so that only autoconfirmed users can edit the page (similar to Head of state page which have pending changes protection) JoshuaJ28 (talk) 04:45, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Disruptive editing / Unsourced content in the last few days. Kind Tennis Fan (talk) 05:24, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection: High level of vandalism by IP addresses involving the name Wheatley2 (talk) 06:36, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Yours sincerely, Bas (or TechGeek105) (talk to me) 07:35, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Persistent disruptive editing, both with IPs and socks, nearly 2 dozen edits/reverts over 6 days. Alivardi (talk) 09:58, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Reason: IP Address and @Xizx12 vandalized the disambiguation page, and other edits are irrelevant in disambiguation page. Royiswariii (talk) 10:25, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Long term vandal who keeps changing IPs and vandalising the page every few days for months now. Many of their previous IPs have been blocked but they keep changing IPs. Bennv123 (talk) 11:04, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – WP:CT/KURD. Skitash (talk) 15:29, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Request indefinite autoconfirmed or semi-protection. Dlaska, directly affiliated with LabPlot, wrote up a series of comically terrible promotional edits which obviously violated numerous guidelines and policies. When MrOllie undid these, the editor in question and/or their affiliates began using IPs to edit war their way into forcing through the (again completely unacceptable) changes, cast aspersions on MrOllie as "biased" and a "non-contributor" who should be "blocked", and sealion about the merits of their edits. When this strategy didn't work, one of the contributors to LabPlot wrote on the official blog this absolutely unhinged screed demonstrating no idea of or care for how Wikipedia is supposed to work, actively encouraging their followers to brigade, and even linking to a tweet which compared MrOllie by name to the Gestapo. Since then, more IP edits have been made trying to push these asinine changes. It's clear that there's a concerted, bad-faith effort by the LabPlot team to use sock- and meatpuppets to push through ridiculous, promotional changes to the detriment of the project and that they have every intention of pushing them through whenever they can in the hopes that nobody is looking. TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 16:04, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – There is an IP user (with dynamic IP) keeps adding unsourced content (which probably breaks other wikipedia guidelines too) and he is not interested in discussing, so I thought making the page semi protected will help. Sports2021 (talk) 16:21, 17 August 2024 (UTC). (talk) 16:21, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

[edit]
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Please change the protection level to allow flagged edits so that I can make factual corrections (the box office gross figures are inaccurate). Also User:Legobro99 who I believe requested the page lock in the first place has been blocked for edit warring. -- 109.77.201.136 (talk) 17:02, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Considering sockpuppetry was why the article was protected - specifically, Legobro99's sockpuppetry - this doesn't seem smart. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 17:07, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
If I recall correctly Legobro99 was edit warring (refused to discuss on talk page) and accused me of sock puppetry because I choose to edit without logging-in and getting an account. Legobro99 was later blocked for edit warring (and then his request to be unblocked was denied when he was caught sock puppetting on the Transformers One article, not the Rise of the Beasts article). -- 109.77.201.136 (talk) 18:45, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
Not unprotected – Please use an edit request to request specific changes to be made to the protected page. Talk:Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is not protected. Favonian (talk) 17:54, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
I made a request almost a week ago and it was ignored which is why I requested the page protection level be lowered (but not removed entirely). -- 109.77.201.136 (talk) 18:40, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

[edit]
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

"Israeli military activities in the Gaza Strip remained unchanged following adoption of the resolution" needs a marker: citation needed. AmbroseVenture (talk) 18:42, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

"On 28 March, the IDF shot and killed two unarmed men in central Gaza, before burying them in sand with bulldozers.[397]" needs to be altered, the source gives two contradicting stories which CNN (the source) didn't clear up. In the article AJ argues without evidence the two videos they present are from the same people, the IDF tells those were two separate incidents. This has to be cleared up to remain factual. AmbroseVenture (talk) 18:44, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Please add the following request to the page: 2A0E:1D47:9085:D200:1C4B:C74A:20B1:D8C1 (talk) 19:08, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Requests for autopatrolled

Autopatrolled

[edit]

For a third time, I'm applying for autopatrolled rights; my first request was denied in April 2023, and my second request was denied in June 2024. The reason for the first decline was that my previous articles were tagged for "notability." After that decline, I worked on bringing articles over from the Russian Wikipedia and had relatively few problems when other editors were reviewing them (I don't bring over everything from those respective pages, so I added a tag for expanding from Russian to let others know that information is still there). The reason for the second decline was that I moved one of my BLP articles back into the mainspace without changing the sourcing, and it was eventually deleted (that was a mistake on my part). Now, roughly two months later, I have had little to no problems with the other articles I have brought over. I respectfully request that I be granted the autopatrolled permission this time around, as I believe it will help lighten the NPP workload to some extent. Thanks in advance for your consideration. Losipov (talk) 20:10, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

Reviewer Aszx5000 has messaged me twice that I should be autopatrolled. I don't care for my sake, since the process works fine for me, but I don't want to be a burden on the reviewers. Please either grant or deny this status based on whatever you think is best for the community. Thanks! Jordanroderick (talk) 23:38, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

Would like to cut down on the backlog of pages that need to be reviewed while I create pages, especially as of recent where I've been working on creating pages for military battles, and Bahmani rulers. I definitely believe the pages I've created shows I am familiar with the guidelines of page notability, and especially quality. I've practiced with this being a new page patroller myself. Noorullah (talk) 00:36, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

I have created 25 new pages and would like to request the autopatrolled right. I have been a user since 2007, but have increased my writing on Wikipedia in the last 3 years. I create articles in generally non-controversial areas such as crystallography, symmetry and philately. GreatStellatedDodecahedron (talk) 13:19, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

Not done You now technically meet the header criteria, but you still don't really have enough experience IMO. I will be willing to grant once you've made a few hundred more edits, especially more substantive edits. * Pppery * it has begun... 20:13, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
I understand, but I would be grateful if you could give me a bit more information. Does typo fixing count as substantive edits? If no, then how is typo fixing a starting use for AWB.
Thanks in advance. Bunnypranav (talk) 06:51, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

Interested in streamlining fixing of typos & CheckWiki errors as I have been doing with WPCleaner; also interested in using more advanced features of AWB to help with updating genome infoboxes for multiple articles related to biology. nmaeltalk 13:21, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

I am currently engaged in editing biographies of recently elected United Kingdom MPs. Much of this involves adding relevant templates and categories, which I hope to streamline with the help of AWB. It will also assist in my more general gnomish work of syntax fixing across the project. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 11:28, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Requests for new page reviewer

New page reviewer

[edit]

Hello there, I am interested tn helping out in new page reviewing as there are very large articles backlog and love to do so. Xegma(talk) 07:10, 11 July 2024 (UTC)

Question, though I am not an administrator, I see that you have published accepted AFC submissions, even if they lack citations or are in need of some fixing. And some have orange banners on them. Why is this? — 48JCL 01:01, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
@48JCL: As they should. The standard at acceptance at AfC is that the article would probably survive an AfD. Nothing more. Declining a draft for surmountable problems like a lack of citations or pretty much anything covered by a cleanup banner is inappropriate. – Joe (talk) 08:18, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
I spot checked the 4 most recent accepts and they had lots of citations at time of acceptance. Feel free to link to the specific draft accepts you are concerned with. A complete lack of citations is a valid draftification reason and valid AFC decline reason, but I am not seeing that here. A major lack of citations such as entire paragraphs missing a citation (and also not supported by any WP:GENREFs) could be a valid decline reason (WP:V is policy after all). But it may also be reasonable to accept a draft that is mostly cited and just missing a couple citations, such as Draft:Norah Fulcher. –Novem Linguae (talk) 13:33, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
Could anyone please review my request ? It is already couple of days. Xegma(talk) 18:10, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

I would like to request new page reviewer rights to help review newly-created articles and lower the backlog. I have accepted lots of drafts at AFC and participated in many AfDs with deep discussions to exhibit my knowledge of notability, as I was advised previously. Thanks! Waqar💬 19:55, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

I see you found the IP at AfC who submits soundtrack articles (41 accepts of soundtracks it looks like). I'm glad to see you've started to accept drafts at AfC, instead of just declining (a ratio of 1 accepted to 348 declined at the time of the last application). I do still have concerns about your experience at AFD, given that, of your last 40 votes, all but 2 of them were pile on votes where the result had basically already been decided based on the number of votes for the conclusion you chose. You accepted one piece of criticism from me, your lack of accepts at AfC, but you do still appear to be pile on voting. Honestly, I'm not sold, but I'll leave it up to someone else whether they want to grant you a trial or not. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:56, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for your feedback. I understand your points, I've made lots of contributions recently, and I hope I will be granted a trial to demonstrate my willingness to contribute positively. Best, Waqar💬 07:49, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
I'd like to say that I've been working so hard for the past couple of months. I've made so many contributions to AFCs, I've reviewed over 1,160 articles (accepts: 138, declines: 670, and the rest either rejected or speedily deleted) so far. I'm also actively patrolling the new page feed, adding maintenance tags, and tagging articles for speedy deletion like A3, A7, and G11. I've drafted more than 200 articles that either lacked reliable sources or needed additional sources. In the AFD discussions, I voted on more than 150 pages. Without considering the no consensus results, 98.6% of my AfD's were matches, and even though the votes were assumed to be piles on voting, most of my recent votes were very detailed and specific and weren't pointing towards anyone, but I will accept their valuable advice and try my best to make improvements at AFDs as well. Having said that, I believe that all those contributions exhibit my hard work and dedication. I hope I get a chance to at least prove myself by patrolling new pages, and I would be more than happy to help with the backlog. Thanks for your time and consideration. Waqar💬 18:10, 27 July 2024 (UTC)

I was given a trial for a few months and would like to renew my permissions. I have made good use of my permissions by fixing new pages and judiciously applying CSD whenever necessary. I am still active at NPP and will continue to make good use of my permissions upon renewal. Florificapis (talk) 22:45, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

I'd like to help out with the backlog at NPP. My previous experience includes many nominations of drafts under G1, G2, and G3, and a couple instances of article ratings and XfD participation. Rusty 🐈 03:48, 3 August 2024 (UTC)

I would like to become a new page patrol to accelerate the page creation process, improve the quality of Wikipedia pages, and reduce the huge current backlog. I have a good understanding of what a qualified article would look like, and created around four articles like Organothallium Chemistry. I have also done various other editing, including merging Carbohydrate Chemistry into Carbohydrate. Pygos (talk) 06:35, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

Two months ago I was given the new page reviewer right, and I want to continue with it. I trust I have made good contributions. Thanks in advance. Tajotep (talk) 10:17, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

I have created 85 pages including a GA. I am familiar with the p&g on notability and reliable sources. Would like to put my knowledge to use by reviewing pages and help out WikiProject Korea a bit more. CherryPie94 🍒🥧 (talk) 05:05, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

My last request was denied due to vague votes in AfD. Since then, I have taken my time to learn more and not just rushed to re-request the rights. Then I had created 50 articles when the request was denied. Currently, I have over 714 articles with only 5 deleted. This shows that I have understanding of what GNG and what SIGCOV is. It will be a pleasure in helping reduce the backlog of new created pages. Tumbuka Arch (talk) 09:44, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I am 79lives and I am willing to remove issues within the numerous articles sent in! I am able to search throughout articles on whether they have used citations or not and will align suitably to Wikipedia notability guidelines as well! Not only that but I am quite active on Wikipedia, so I will be able to try alleviate some of the backlog for the group here.

Per Joe Roe's post on WikiProject Linguistics, I would be willing to help out reviewing new linguistics articles. Botterweg14 (talk) 22:14, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

I requested this perm a while ago before I was adequately experienced, and it was recently suggested that I apply again. Since my first request I have participated a lot more at AfC and AfD, which I think has shown me aspects of notability/deletion/creation policies I had less of a grasp of then. I think it would be good to help given the backlog (particularly where it relates to events and literature where I believe myself to have the best grasp on notability criteria). I would like to help with the redirect backlog as well. Thanks! PARAKANYAA (talk) 01:20, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

I request that I have page reviewer rights to lower the backlog. I typically create articles in royalty and nobility and have made 16 successful articles specialised in royalty as well as I contribute a lot to them. I have 1,700 edits in the 9 months I have been on Wikipedia meaning I contribute daily. I really hope that I can help reduce the backlog! Thanks in advance. At the least, asking Toadette here what might or should have been done differently seems appropriate. Dekimasuよ! 06:38, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
I'm also concerned about User_talk:ToadetteEdit#RM_at_Talk:Ted_Wilson_(figure_skater), which is, at best, a communication failure (A good closer will transparently explain how the decision was reachedWP:NHC), and at worst a headcount to determine consensus (WP:NOTDEMOCRACY). DatGuyTalkContribs 13:30, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
I'm an active AfC reviewer, and I spend a lot of time patrolling new pages. I often draftify articles that are not sourced or need additional sources (over 250 articles so far). Having this right would be super useful and help reduce the number of R2 tags for admins in the backlog. I also have experience in WP:RM, and I'd like to request page mover rights for non-controversial tasks. Thank you, Waqar💬 16:39, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

Requests for rollback

Rollback

[edit]

I have been patrolling recent changes and combating vandalism for a little over a month. I've been primarily using Twinkle and I would like to request rollback privileges to use other tools such as Huggle. I understand the importance of leaving users a notice whenever their edits are reverted. Jiffles1 (talk) 22:30, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

I see that you are failing to consistently warn editors when you revert their edits (e.g. 1, 2, 3). Why? It's important to leave a notification for every revert you make. Are you aware that we have tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet that make this extremely easy? -Fastily 09:25, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
Hi there! Thanks for responding. I believe I left warning messages for the three reverts you cited (here, here, and here). In all three cases, I used Twinkle to generate the messages because, as you noted, the tool makes the process extremely easy. Admittedly, I was bit inconsistent in leaving warnings when I first started combating vandalism, but I have been quite diligent about it over the past couple of weeks. If I’m missing something or doing something wrong, please let me know and I’ll correct it going forward. Jiffles1 (talk) 11:17, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
My apologies, you are totally correct. I misread the edit summaries for those reverts. Appreciate the clarification,  Done -Fastily 09:29, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

I had this as admin, I would still find it useful. Naomi Amethyst 03:11, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

 Done -Fastily 09:25, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

I have used Twinkle to revert vandalism mostly from the recent changes page for a while now and warn users afterwards. Twinkle is not sufficient for me on longer articles because of my sluggish internet connection. Reverts I make with Twinkle may take up to ten seconds, even with ethernet connected to my router. Rollback permissions would be greatly appreciated to make edits faster and save time. I can be trusted with rollback permissions as I have been actively reverting vandalism with a few breaks for school since July 2023, consistantly warning editors with the templates that Twinkle offers. I understand what is and what is not vandalism, and believe that I have what it takes to be trusted with the rollback tool. Thank you, ItsCheck (talk) 03:10, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Not done you've barely made any reverts since I declined your previous request. I've told you this before: please spend at least a month actively patrolling RecentChanges (Twinkle & Ultraviolet can help with that) before reapplying. Also, please ensure that you are consistently warning editors when you revert their edits. -Fastily 09:29, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
