Chanting Fox 05:39, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I've only been on here for a month or so, and most of my edits have been minor. I've screwed up a few times, the biggest screwup which is evident on my talk page. As against that, I've done a pretty good job at cleaning up vandalism, I've made a few stubs, and I seem to have an uncanny ability when it comes to figuring out possible vandals. (Of course that last one isn't anything out of the ordinary, I suppose.) This is meant to "test the waters," to use an expression. I'm aware this self-nomination is a longshot at this point, but I'm willing to give it a go.

I wish to withdraw my self-nomination. As stated above, this was merely a test run, and the results neither anger nor surprise me. i will wait a few more months before trying this again. Thank you for your comments, and I hope to see you again on this page in a few months. Hopefully by then I'll be somewhat more experienced (and if you look at the page history for this self-nomination, you'll clearly understand what I mean by that.) --Chanting Fox 18:36, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose

  1. Um, no. RickK 05:45, May 5, 2005 (UTC)
  2. Not yet. Maybe in six months or so. --Carnildo 05:51, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Oppose. I admire people who "test the waters," but only if they have some fighting chance. Because Chanting Fox has only been with us for a month, this user has no chance now. Come back when you have more experience. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 05:52, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Oppose for now. keep up the hard work and try again in a few months. Kingturtle 06:05, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Oppose. I've noticed your RC-patrolling, but you need to get much more overall experience in simple editing and how stuff works on WP (knowing how to make a redirect is a really, really basic thing that I read on your talk page that you don't know how to do yet.) Try again in 2 months. Shanes 06:17, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  6. ""Oppose"" Chanting is not really ready yet as she/he has only been here since April. But never mind, try in a few months time.
User:ImpalerBugz didn't sign his post. ImpalerBugz, by that logic you aren't really ready yet either. You are allowed to withdraw your self-nom if you like. r3m0t talk 09:51, May 5, 2005 (UTC)

  8. Come back in a few months when you have substantially more experience. Kelly Martin 12:35, May 5, 2005 (UTC)
  9. Impressive edit count for being here a month, but just too new. Good to see someone interested in fighting vandalism though, and I'd probably support after a few more months of similar activity. Andrew Lenahan - Starblind 13:10, May 5, 2005 (UTC)

  • This has been re-listed on RFA on July 4. Why is that? Harro5 July 4, 2005 02:29 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. Cleaning up vandalism, deleting obvious nonsense, and even marking for cleanup. Oh yes, blocking user too... if needed. I'm not going to wait for somebody to get 4 warning on their talk page if its clear from their very recent edit history that they've been doing absolutely nothing constructive... perhaps a block of an hour or two in those cases.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. I'm not really that much of a contributor.... I've spent most of my time cleaning up after vandals and marking stuff for deletion. A sort of Wikipedia janitor, if you will.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and will deal with it in the future?
A. Not really. The closest I came to that was mistaking someone for a vandal who just happened to not be familiar with English when it came to editing. I keep a certain message on my talk page to remind me of that incident. I did clean up after myself though. I removed the vandalism report that I'd submitted since it was my mistake, and posted on the talk page of the person who rebuked me several times, apologizing and notifying him that I'd removed the report. He never got back to me... but that's not really the point now, is it?
