Green Zone

[edit]

I don't believe the Iraqi National Assembly still meets in the Green Zone. Am I wrong? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.107.55.84 (talk) 06:35, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First paragraph sentence 2: "The current assembly is an elected body of 275 seats, in comparison to the assembly under former President Saddam Hussein." - What is being compared? It sounds like a word is missing from this sentence immediately after the comma.

President vs. Dictator

[edit]

Saddam was a Dictator. For the purposes of an article about the structure of a government, he was the President. The fact that he was a dictator is best discussed, as it is, in the article about Saddam that I have now wikilinked to his name. Hipocrite 19:24, 16 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Military president is a better term here; theoretically, he was democratically elected. - Basileus Basileon Basileuon Basileuoton 03:49, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Mejlis Watani (Majlis Watani)

[edit]

The December elections were for the Majlis an-Nuwwab (al-Nuwwab, al-Nuwwaab), often translated as the National Assembly but in the AP translation of the Constitution as Council of Representatives. I believe Majlis Watani was the name just of the transitional National Assembly, I'm checking on that now. --Cam 16:30, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, it appears that the official Arabic names are these (I hope to add more cites):
Saddam's assembly: المجلس الوطني (al-Majlis al-Watani)
National Assembly under the transitional law: الجمعية الوطنية (al-Jam`iyya al-Wataniyya) [1]
Council of Representatives under the 2005 Const.: مجلس النواب (Majlis an-Nuwwab)
--Cam 17:03, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
And here are some historical constitution links that I am checking out:
Previous constitutions of Iraq (Arabic): [2] [3]
Previous constitutions of Iraq (English): [4]
Several versions of the 2005 constitution (Arabic and English): [5]

I've listed the move under Wikipedia:Requested_moves#Uncontroversial_proposals. I hope this is still as uncontroversial as it was then, please shout if not. AndrewRT(Talk) 19:41, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]

From WP:RM: Council of Representatives (Iraq)Council of Representatives of Iraq —(Discuss)— A quick look at Category:National legislatures will give an idea about the concensus on the issue. —Int21h 17:32, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This seems a good idea to me... the seems no disambiguation issue, so why use a disambiguated name. Andrewa 06:21, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been renamed from Council of Representatives (Iraq) to Council of Representatives of Iraq as the result of a move request. --Stemonitis 20:54, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
