If you do this search on Google: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22morocco+left%22+%22Organisation+of+African+Unity%22

You will find that most articles state that Morocco left the OAU in 1984. I cannot find a good source though, so I haven't changed it, as it is certainly possible that Western Africa joined in 1984, and Morocco left shortly thereafter -- in 1985.

Anyone know for sure?

have a good history of the OAU. Morocco announced that it would leave in 1984 and left in 1985.

1963 meeting

[edit]

Shouldn't the 1963 Summit Conference of Independent African States, which took place from May 15 to May 25, 1963 (with the signing of the Addis Ababa Charter taking place on May 25, 1963) be mentioned in the list of summits? Badagnani 02:17, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is true that Morocco left the African Union over the recognition of the Western Sahara as an independent nation. I am looking for a creditable web source, but this should not be very difficult to find in printed form.Kimemia Maina (talk) 19:14, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cooperation agreement with the Holy See

[edit]

I noticed that the OAU had signed a cooperation agreement with the Holy See. The article should provide information about the OAU's relations with other major world bodies in order to explain in what context such an agreement with the Holy See was made. All Independent?

[edit]

I do not know alot about the subject of the Western Sahara but Polisario Front and their Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic but many people claim it is the legitimate government of the former Spanish colony of Spanish Sahara now governed by Morocco. This quote from the 2nd to last paragraph I think should be re-worded to reflect this but I'd like someone to tell what the view is in Africa, in Western Sahara, and in Morocco? "Although all African countries eventually won their independence, it remained difficult for them to become totally independent of their former colonisers" Thanks for your input ahead of time. -- Nate Riley 23:56, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is a mess

[edit]

This article needs to be cleaned up. It is very messy, and where is the history section? Senegambianamestudy (talk) 18:20, 18 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

map

[edit]

The map is obsolete https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organisation_of_African_Unity#/media/File:Organization_of_African_Unity_Map.svg because the independence of South Sudan is not shown by the border lines. 37.120.49.149 (talk) 11:00, 5 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
