Why does barium oxide redirect here? One is BaO, the other is Ba(OH)2. Not the same thing...! MrHumperdink 18:19, September 10, 2005 (UTC)

For those who are in the know, the article on strontium hydroxide needs some help.RSido 05:06, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is it true that barium hydroxide is called "Baryta"? My understanding (as a photographer, not a chemist) is that Baryta, as coated on photographic paper, is barium sulphate. The OED agrees with me on this as do other online references to photographic paper. Of course, it is possible "Baryta" is used for both compounds - common names are often re-used - but even in this case, the reference to barium hydroxide being used on photographic paper in the article is incorrect. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.101.234.177 (talk) 14:23, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Also under the name of baryta it is used in the production of photographic paper for printing."

No it isn't, that's barium sulphate. I'm removing this sentence. Baffle gab1978 (talk) 00:49, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
