In All My Time Comparing Eric Cartman With Archie Bunker, I Can't See Solid Evidence To Back The Claim He Is A "Little Archie Bunker"

[edit]

For starters, Cartman won't like Archie's taste in World War II generation music and would instead prefer Terrance and Phillip fart jokes. He will never even go as far as to call black people "coloreds," like how Archie did. Unlike Archie, he is also raised by a single mother and has no experience with an abusive father. Norman Lear's son being a staunch South Park fan is at least one reason for doubting the honesty of the claim.[1]. Spoiling a child is a logical motive for hyping this claim.Speakfor (talk) 10:59, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Perceived racist and misogynistic views?!

[edit]

At the end of the viewer reactions section, when noting that Eric Carman was modeled after him, it is said his views are 'perceived' as racist and misogynistic.

The word 'perceived' doesn't belong there. He was a bigot, and the character was deliberately written to be one. Saying his bigotry was only perceived seems to be an attempt to lighten the impact of it because of the changes the character went through when he was faced with (what were to him) uncomfortable realities. The fact that he was willing and able to change his mind and dearly loved Edith doesn't mean he wasn't a bigot. It means he was a complex character that was legitimately trying to do the right thing, and once he saw he was wrong, he changed his ways. That limiter should not be there. The bigotry and misogyny were core parts of Archie's character arc, and should be emphasized as a struggle he went through to be a better man, not reduced because he improved later. Archie and WWII

[edit]

It does not say if Archie was drafted or not, however, if he was, it would have been sometime after May 18, 1941 in which case, he would have been 18. ~~~ Nosehair2200 (talk) 23:35, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
