    Clarification Regarding Translation Replacement[edit]

    Hi there,

    I'm not entirely sure if this is the correct place to ask, but maybe someone will be able to assist. I noticed that the article Egor Kreed, for example, was considerably empty in contrast to the one found on the Russian Wikipedia, and was looking to add content to it. However, when I was using the translation tool for other articles, I noticed that there is an option to replace an already existing page with a translation. My question for this is: what would be the potential impact of such an action? Would there need to be additional steps taken afterwards? I think it would be easier to do another translation (given how organized the tool is) but at the same time, I do not want to mess things up if that makes sense. Thanks in advance for the help. Losipov (talk) 03:10, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Despite what the notice says at the top of Egor Kreed, expanding an English Wikipedia article with a translation from an article in another language is a bad idea, unless you are satisfied that the text you are translating is supported by citations to the standard required in English Wikipedia (which tends to be a higher standard than many others).
    If the text you are translating is so supported, then that's fine: you translate it, and cite the original sources (unless you can find equally good English ones, which are preferred if they exist). But if it is not, then what you will be doing is adding unsourced information to the article, which is generally not acceptable (and especially not when it is an article about a living person).
    Looking at ru:Крид, Егор, at first sight it has lots of citations. But looking at them, an awful lot of them appear to be either to his own work, or to VK (service), which is a social media site: the bulk of citations in an article should each meet the triple criterion of reliability, independence from the subject, and having significant coverage of the subject. There may be some citations in the Russian article that meet these criteria, but if so, they are swamped by the refbombing of inferior or worthless sources.
    Also, I notice that several claims in the first paragraphs are tagged with "источник не указан 423 дня", which I believe means "unsourced for xxx days". ColinFine (talk) 15:46, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Text size[edit]

    Hello, I am having difficulty reading the Wikipedia pages. how do I increase the screen text size? Thanks Chris. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chriswv3 (talkcontribs) 03:46, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    In most browsers, pressing ctrl and + on your keyboard will increase the displayed font size for most websites, (ctrl and - to decrease it). -- D'n'B-t -- 04:05, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    If you have a Mac on Safari, this should be Option-Command-Equal Sign (=) for zooming in, and Option-Command-Minus Sign (-) for zooming out. Cheers! Hanoi2020 (talk) 17:15, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    In addition to what DandelionAndBurdoch says, there's also a icon that you can click at the top of the page, which generates a dropdown menu that allows you to adjust text size and width. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 04:27, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Tenryuu, at the top of which page? In what browser? I've never seen that icon; though admittedly I've never searched for it, as I know to use ctrl +.   Maproom (talk) 11:03, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @Maproom: The above assumes that one is on Vector 2022. Frankly I don't like using it as there are a few namespaces that are exempted from it. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 13:56, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @Tenryuu I was wondering what the default is on that appearance icon (oo). I always have it set at the following: text: small, and width: wide. But that's only because it works best that way on my desktop. It's confusing when editing because putting in a "soft hyphen" tag (at end of a sentence) depends on one's settings. JimPercy (talk) 15:17, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @JimPercy: It's been a while since I've fiddled with it, but I think the default text size is Medium and the width is Standard. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 15:34, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Import from another language Wiki[edit]

    I have seen that my article de:Fadenwurminfektionen des Hundes was transferred (and translated) per c&p to Nematode infection in dogs, without using Wikipedia:Requests for page importation and therefore without article history. In the German WP this procedure is not allowed because it violates Wikipedia:Copyrights. I have no idea how it is handled in the English WP. Uwe Gille (talk) 11:16, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Uwe Gille, Wikipedia copyright policy allows reuse of text, but says that credit to the authors should be provided, for example by including "a hyperlink (where possible) or URL to the page or pages you are re-using". This is also explained at Help:Translation#English Wikipedia policy requirements. Unlike in de Wikipedia Wikipedia:Requests for page importation are not required and appear to be unusual. Nematode infection in dogs has followed the en Wikipedia policy. TSventon (talk) 12:15, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Uwe Gille, attribution was included in the initial edit summary for the English page. Also, a slightly incomplete attribution for the work of editors on de.wp was added to the talk-page with this edit. Ideally that would include the exact revision number for the translated content. Alemedicen, would you kindly add that, for this page and for any other that you have translated? Thank you, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:11, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @Justlettersandnumbers, Alemedicen has been blocked since last November. ColinFine (talk) 15:51, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks, ColinFine! I'm gradually learning that the Open Knowledge Association is even less well-liked than I had thought. I've added to the attribution for the translation. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 16:23, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    I can't login to my account in wikipedia![edit]

    Hello, I have been a member of Wikipedia for years.

    For the past few days, I have been trying to log into my Wikipedia account, but after entering my username and password, I receive an error message. I am sure that I am entering both my username and password correctly, but each time I get the same response that either the username or the password is wrong!

    When I click on the "Forgot password" option, it asks for my username and email address, but I do not receive any email in my inbox for resetting my password!!

    What should I do? 185.125.249.18 (talk) 12:20, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    BTW, my user-id in wikipedia is: mjdtjm 185.125.249.18 (talk) 12:36, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    If you can't recall your password and the email is not working, then nothing more can be done. You will need to create a new account. You can add a note to the new account's user page that you previously edited under the old name. RudolfRed (talk) 16:08, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Hello. The account in question is User: Mjdtjm with a capital M. Check whether that may be the source of the problem. That account does not have email access enabled, so the software cannot send you anything by email. You should enable email if you regain access, or on your new account if it comes to that. Abrupt GA Delist - Florida State University - No Discussion, no cooperation[edit]

    I am requesting help with another editor who abruptly delisted the main Florida State University from GA status (which the article has had for years) while a GA Reassessment works through the process. I need to resolve concerns with non-free use in a couple sections, mainly and perhaps a style preference or two. Otherwise, the editor proposing the GAR is helpful and generally cooperative. However, a third editor entered the matter abruptly and delisted the article, with no explanation or collaboration. Thank you for any help! Sirberus (talk) 15:12, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Sirberus, you should probably follow the process for Disputing a reassessment at Wikipedia:Good article reassessment. I see you have raised your concerns with the closing editor on their talk page. The steps are
    1. A GAR closure should only be contested if the closure was obviously against consensus or otherwise procedurally incorrect. A closure should only be disputed within the first seven days following the close.
    2. Before disputing a GAR closure, first discuss your concerns with the closing editor on their talk page.
    3. If discussing does not resolve concerns, editors should post at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations and ask for review from uninvolved editors and the coordinators. TSventon (talk) 15:48, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
      Thank you. I will follow up within the required period. I see we are three days into the seven, so time is of the essence.Sirberus (talk) 17:23, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
      I went ahead and requested GA reassessment and explained what has occurred. I want to stay within the seven-day period if at all possible. Other editors are welcome to join the GAR (once the delist matter is reversed or addressed) and rework. Sirberus (talk) 17:44, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
      The delisting editor (Real4jyy) shows up and says the reason the delisting was made is that no additional edits were made in two weeks...while the two active editors were waiting for a subject matter expert in non-free material to contribute to the review. Pardon me, but I live in the real world, and Wikipedia is a low priority for me and others who want to make Wikipedia better. It may takes months to finish the work. Frankly, the pattern of this individual appears to be to move from one GA review to another and delist whatever falls under their cursor. That is absurd. It takes substantial work to bring an article to GA status. I suggest if any editor want the authority to delist a GA, they should at least bring an article to the GA standard.Sirberus (talk) 10:15, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    We have the same name[edit]

    There are multiple artists along with other individuals with the same name “Matt Lambert” I have noticed that our information biography and such are getting mixed together. It happens quite often on platforms that we are mistaken for each other as we have parallel themes in some of our work. I noticed this happening particularly in the Spanish version.

    suggestions on how to remedy this? 178.16.214.236 (talk) 09:39, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Hi, IP editor who is presumably Matt Lambert.
    On the English wikipedia, the best way to address this is to use the {{Edit COI}} template on the Article's talk page. You might use to say something like "Please remove XYZ because that refers to the Matt Lambert who is based in Madrid, not the one who is based in LA" and provide a link to a reliable source which makes it clear.
    As all the different language run wikis are seperate, we can't advise on Spanish wiki - but I think their process would be pretty similar. -- D'n'B-t -- 10:04, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Commission to write a page but....[edit]

    Hello I have been commissioned to create a page for a member of a legendary southern rock band. While I have written many times, I have never worked with Wikipedia. After completing this first page, it is very possible, likely even, that others in the industry will want me to create pages for them as well. Please let me now step what do I need to do to get started. Thank you, -Otto Otto Motev (talk) 16:37, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Read WP:PAID. You are required to make certain disclosures and follow certain rules when writing for pay. While not banned outright, the practice is looked down upon, and frequently produces articles which fail to meet Wikipedia's standards of neutrality and which therefore risk being rejected. Then read WP:FIRSTARTICLE to learn about the article creation process. AntiDionysius (talk) 16:40, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Not for pay. When I say commissioned I should have specified that. Thank you very much for the insight and link! Otto Motev (talk) 17:59, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @Otto Motev: Even if you're not being paid to write an article for someone you still have a conflict of interest, which you should still disclose. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 18:08, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Not for pay? What do you mean by commissioned then? Please do specify your connection to the subject. --Onorem (talk) 19:46, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Oh really? What would the comflict be? I dont understand? How would i disclose it? 2600:1009:B05F:1E17:81F2:3BF:51C3:1DC5 (talk) 19:37, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Click on the link and read through the full guidelines. It explains both how to disclose a conflict of interest, and why it's important to do so. The short version is basically that in a case where you have a personal connection to something - it's your friend's company, you personally know the members of the band you're writing about etc - it will in many cases affect your ability to be neutral when writing about that subject, even when you are unaware of it and/or trying very hard to be neutral. Declaring the connection is therefore good for transparency purposes. AntiDionysius (talk) 19:49, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Oh yes that makes sense for sure thank you Otto Motev (talk) 20:06, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    I was asked by fans initially. They know that I write. Since then a cohost of the podcast he is on has asked me to write this. Its amazing to me that this person is not already on here? But thats why the fans approached me. Otto Motev (talk) 20:08, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @Otto Motev: Note also that we use "paid" to cover any compensation. This includes working on the article with your boss's permission on company time, and several other situations, not just straight fee for service. -Arch dude (talk) 18:34, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    There will be no pay or compensation at all. I am independent and do not have a boss at all. The subject is currently involved in charity work. Otto Motev (talk) 20:09, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Too everyone taking the time to enlighten me on the nature if Wikipedia, thank you! Otto Motev (talk) 20:29, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @Otto Motev You may need a solid piece of writing advice. I have no idea what your usual writing style is, nor whether you are adaptable. Wikipedia requires flat, neutral, dull-but-worthy prose, with references. Obviously we may not accept copyright wviolations. Assuming your rock legend is still living we have very specific needs for referencing:
    For a living person we have a high standard of referencing. Every substantive fact you assert, especially one that is susceptible to potential challenge, requires a citation with a reference that is about them, and is independent of them, in multiple secondary sources which are WP:RS, and is significant coverage. Please also see WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources and WP:SELFPUB which has clear limitations on self published sources. Providing sufficient references, ideally one per fact cited, that meet these tough criteria is likely to make this draft a clear acceptance (0.9 probability). Lack of them or an inability to find them is likely to mean that the person is not suitable for inclusion, certainly today.
    I wish you success. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 20:34, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Thank you!! Yes it sounds similar to writing training garb, process manuals and corporate stuff. All facts no conjecture. Sighting references is required, I believe I understand that correctly? Man, this is very good information I really appreciate you!! Thanks again!! Otto Motev (talk) 20:48, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Yes, but note that the vast bulk of your sources must be wholly independent of the subject - not written, published or commissioned by them or their associates or agents, or based on interviews with them or press releases. Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is almost entirely interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. If enough material is cited from independent sources to establish notability, a limited amount of uncontroversial factual information may be added from non-independent sources.
    Note also that Wikipedia is not interested in what you personally know about the subject: every single piece of information you put in an article should have been published in a reliable source (and preferably, you should cite that source). ColinFine (talk) 22:57, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Yes, a few articles have a red link to the non-existing page Marisol Lopez-Tromp but that does not imply that a page was deleted. See Wikipedia:Red link. Two other WIkipedia languages have articles about her: nl:Marisol Lopez-Tromp and pap:Marisol Lopez-Tromp. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:58, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Hello Quaketornado. Based on a machine translation of the Dutch language article, it seems that she is a long time member and senior leader of of the Parliament of Aruba, which is called the Staten. Accordingly, it would be great if a Dutch speaking editor could translate that article into English. See WP:TRANSLATE to find out how to do that. Cullen328 (talk) 01:14, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Quaketornado, I have also gone in for a few of the articles and added interlanguage links to the nlwiki article (IMO, more complete than the one on papwiki) using the ill template. this will be *automatically* updated to link to an article about her on English language Wikipedia if such an article is created. At minimum her standing as a member of a country's National Parliament would pass the Notability test. Naraht (talk) 13:29, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Concern about an editor's behavior[edit]

    I have concerns about an editor acting, in my view, out of compliance with the Wikimedia Foundation Universal Code of Conduct. To whom should I address the specifics of the issue? I have been taught to praise in public and criticize in private, so my thoughts are that I should not just post this to an admin on a talk page. Please advise. Thank you for your help. Doc54625 (talk) 19:33, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    The UCoC is not really something we enforce locally, because we already have local policies that are, in almost all cases, stricter than the UCoC. If your concern has a priovacy component you should report it to WP:ARBCOM by email, but if it does not you should in fact post at the relvant admin noticeboard such as WP:ANI. Release History on MATLAB page[edit]

    On May 31st, 2024, MrOllie removed the "Release history" section on MATLAB under WP:NOTCHANGELOG. However, this list seems synthesized from multiple sources and more granular than what MATLAB provides on its own website without discussing bugs being squashed or intermediate snapshots. Similarly, ZFS has a section, and Adobe Acrobat has a dedicated version history page. Would it be best to revert the deletion, to make a reduced/redacted form to make it less of a changelog, or to split the version/release/number correlation chart into a separate page similar to the various Windows 10 updates? UpbeatDiamond (talk) 23:42, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    While the WP:BRD process allows you to revert, doing so would almost certainly be followed by a discussion on the article's talk page. Since that is going to happen anyway, and also since you are proposing different possible answers, starting a discussion on the talk page is clearly the best approach. Make sure you notify MrOllie. i wish to add an email address of an artist to his page but ive been flagged and banned from it. its a personal email account. what should i do to be able to add his email to the draft

    Jesus Michael Kolbe (talk) 00:43, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    @Jesus Michael Kolbe: Don't. It's against Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Privacy of personal information and using primary sources. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:52, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Why on earth would you want to put the artist's email address in an encyclopaedia article about them? What encyclopaedic purpose would that possibly serve? (I see that the draft has now been deleted as promotional anyway). ColinFine (talk) 10:05, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    My admin account can see the attempted edit at Special:AbuseLog/38129745: "He is a talented gospel singer and writer who is prospected and receives ordinances from the spirit to write powerful and compacting lyrics in the praise of God. He seeks to collaborate with fellow gospel singers who being led by the spirit wishes to partner with him. Encompassing Gospel singers and individuals can reach out to him through his email at ..." None of this is remotely appropriate for a Wikipedia article. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:45, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Blockquotes[edit]

    I was doing a GA review, I just want to ask if blockquotes are copyvios, you can also see Giado concentration camp to see the review/the blockquotes. TheNuggeteer (talk) 02:01, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    The start of the GA review is not there but at Talk:Giado concentration camp/GA1, where you ask the same question, TheNuggeteer, and where Zanahary has answered it well. Incidentally, I was surprised to see quotation marks contain everything in each of these blocks. They were superfluous, and I therefore removed them. -- Hoary (talk) 06:27, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    AWB edit summary help[edit]

    I originally posted this over at WT:AWB but haven't gotten an answer, and it's putting me off editing with AWB at the moment, so I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone who doesn't look at WT:AWB knows the answer.

    I'd like to stop the addition of the [[WP:AWB/T|typo(s) fixed]]: text to edit summaries when using AWB's automatic typo fixes. Is there any way to do this? Using the "lock the default edit summary" option doesn't stop it from being added.

    Thanks! Suntooooth, it/he (talk/contribs) 02:23, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Suntooooth, hopefully WT:AWB will answer shortly. Could you explain why you dislike "typo(s) fixed" there? I found Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Archive 33#Request regarding the default edit summary in the talkpage archive, which may be relevant. TSventon (talk) 10:11, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    I dislike it because my default edit summary is already "minor fixes", which covers typos/caps fixes/etc, and because it unnecessarily clutters my edit summaries. I think it's useful for some people, but for me I'd just like an option to disable it. Suntooooth, it/he (talk/contribs) 13:52, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    There may be a good reason to use a standardised wording, such as allowing AWB edits to be tracked more easily, but the AWB page watchers will know more about that than I do.

    Article not visible on internet page.[edit]

    Hello I have created an article some days ago but it is not visible on the internet page. How to sort out this problem. Thank you Aditya Bijarniya (talk) 03:33, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    @Aditya Bijarniya It looks like some of the pages you created may have been moved to draft space, because they aren't ready for the main encyclopedia. You may want to look at your contributions, where you can find links to the pages you've edited. —C.Fred (talk) 03:35, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @C.Fred
    No article is in draft. Aditya Bijarniya (talk) 03:40, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @Aditya Bijarniya Then I'm not sure how to help you, because I don't see where there are any deleted articles in your deleted contributions. —C.Fred (talk) 03:42, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @Aditya Bijarniya: can you clarify what you mean by "not visible on the internet page"? Are you unable to find or see the page anymore yourself? Or are you just asking why the page goes not show up in internet search engines like Google? If you're asking about why it does not show up in internet search engines like Google then even if it remains in article space it is not likely to do so until either 90 days have passed or someone has marked it as patrolled per WP:NOINDEX. There isn't really much you can do to speed up this process other than wait although if the article is clearly WP:Notable and without significant problems perhaps people in the WP:NPP team are more likely to pass it quickly. Note that any article in draft space is not likely to show up ever. Nil Einne (talk) 04:01, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Pinging ApricotFoot who updated Corn Cuchulainn the last three years. It's not my field and I have no idea what the SP column even means. I found mention of the 2024 winner at [1] but not [2]. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:48, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    SP means 'Starting Price': i.e. the 'average' (but it's complicated) betting odds being quoted on the runner (horse or greyhound) by bookmakers at the start of the race. {The poster formerly known as 87,.81.230.195} 151.227.226.178 (talk) 04:23, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    NOBEL PEACE LAUREATE MR KAILASH SATYARTHI 2014 wiki no editable[edit]

    Kailash Satyarthi doesn't have any editing restrictions, and protecting it would require a request at WP:RFPP. This would require evidence of persistent disruptive editing, which there doesn't seem to be at the moment.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 10:33, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    This is a help desk for the English Wikipedia. If you refer to another page than the English Kailash Satyarthi then please link it. If you refer to Kailash Satyarthi then I'm not sure whether you want to edit the page or prevent others from doing it. You can edit it now and there is currently no valid reason to prevent others. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:31, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    You can create a username and password for yourself at CreateAccount, but that is not a requirement for editing that particular article. -- D'n'B-t -- 11:35, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    It sounds as if you might have the (very common) misunderstanding that the article on Kailash Satyarthi "belongs to" him or his team: it does not. Articles do not belong to anybody, and the article may be edited by almost anybody in the world except Satyarthi or people associated with him. If you are Satyarthi or somebody associated with him, then you have a conflict of interest, and you should not directly edit the article, but you may make edit requests. It's intentional, as they now act as links to the comment, for copying to other discussions and such. They have the css class "ext-discussiontools-init-timestamplink" if you wish to target them in your custom css. WelpThatWorked (talk) 14:07, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @L3X1: You can add code like this to your CSS:
    .ext-discussiontools-init-timestamplink,
    .ext-discussiontools-init-timestamplink:visited,
    .ext-discussiontools-init-timestamplink:active {
      color: black !important;

    Help with information contributions[edit]

    I would like to add information about the two streaming platforms I own on Roku and fire tv. I don't know how to add that information on here. I don't want to be blocked. May I have assistance or guidance Msffga18 (talk) 14:05, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Hello, Msffga18. First, if you own the platforms, then you have a financial stake, and Wikipedia regards you as a paid editor: you must make a formal declaration of this on your user page: see the link I gave for how to do this.
    Because of your conflict of interest, you should not edit directly, but you may make an edit request on the talk page of an article you want to change, and in time an uninvolved volunteer editor will see your request and decide what to do. Your case will be stronger if you can cite a source where somebody wholly unconnected with you or your platforms has chosen to write about your availability on those services (more than just a listing or mention). If it appears to the editor that your purpose is purely promotion, and there is no encyclopaedic value to adding the platforms, then they will not do so. Wikimedia API parse - properties property[edit]

    The parse action of the Wikimedia API contains a property called 'properties', which shows images and "expectedUnconnectedPage" and I can't really tell what that is for and whether it's useful

    KirkiArty (talk) 01:17, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    @KirkiArty: Please always give an example when possible. 'properties' shows properties for a specified page so the result will vary for different pages. Unconnected page means there is no Wikidata item for the page. I think it's only shown for pages in namespaces where it's possible to have a Wikidata item. I'm not sure about the difference between expectedUnconnectedPage (example) and unexpectedUnconnectedPage (example). Does it matter to you? PrimeHunter (talk) 02:31, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Uh
    All I really care about is whether I should keep it when mirroring, aka whether it's useful KirkiArty (talk) 02:42, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @KirkiArty: This is a help desk for the English Wikipedia. What do you mean by mirroring? Is your question about another website? If so then I have no way of telling whether users of an unidentified website will find something useful. Users of the English Wikipedia certainly may want to know whether a page has a Wikidata item. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:51, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Mirroring is hosting a copy of something
    In this case ofc wikipedia KirkiArty (talk) 02:56, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @KirkiArty: I guess this is about your own website and not a website run by the Wikimedia Foundation. It wouldn't really be a copy if you omit things but I don't know how your mirror is made and whether the API gives the same results as here. If it says UnconnectedPage for all pages then it sounds useless. Anyway, do what you want on your own website as long as you respect foundation:Policy:Terms of Use. Note the parts about trademarks and licensing. If you post questions at the English Wikipedia then please always say if they aren't about something here at en.wikipedia.org. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:20, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    They are about something here.
    I'm asking about what the property tells you and whether it's useful
    'Do what you want on your own website' is obvious, but doesn't help since it isn't an answer as to whether it's useful KirkiArty (talk) 03:24, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @KirkiArty: It's useful here. I cannot speak for your unidentified website. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:39, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    I was sent a "warning"[edit]

    I edited a page ("Clovis_Culture") by replacing a paragraph containing errors with a corrected paragraph.

    I received a "Warning" from "jdcomix" on my Talk page -- "This is your only warning: if you remove or blank page contents or templates from Wikipedia again, you may be blocked from editing without further notice." 17:15, 30 June 2024.

    I do not understand what this means, and I have received no response to my replies

    Can you please explain what I was being warned about?

    Thanks --

    ~~~~ Gahaynes (talk) 01:53, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Hello, Gahaynes. You removed well-referenced, well-written content and replaced it with content that was not very well written, and initially very poorly referenced. Instead of making your case at Talk:Clovis culture, you made a lengthy edit summary that insulted another editor as "incompetent", which is a violation of the behavioral guideline Assume good faith and is a personal attack which is contrary to policy. This is a collaborative project and decisions here are based on consensus. When another editor disagrees, it is incumbent on you to discuss the issue on the article talk page and gain consensus for your proposed changes there. Those are among the reasons that you were warned. You are new here. You need to learn more about social norms among fellow editors before trying to push through contested changes. Cullen328 (talk) 02:18, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    As for getting no replies to your remarks on your talk page, that is is because you did not ping the editor who left the warning. Therefore, that editor had no way to know that you responded there. Cullen328 (talk) 02:24, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    The weird thing is that the editor concerned about the Op's edits didn't revert them. Had he done so, with an explanatory Edit summary, it may have helped. HiLo48 (talk) 02:31, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    In addition to what others have said, if you are the G Haynes whose book is being referenced, you should not be directly editing the part of the article which references the book, as that is regarded as a conflict of interest. Rather, you should raise an edit request on the talk page, or at least discuss the matter there first. ColinFine (talk) 09:16, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Help with WP:OWN concern[edit]
    Hello, I recently raised a WP:OWN concern on a page I had been edited lately the Antioch International Movement of Churches. I noticed 50% of the authorship edits on that page have been edited by a single editor since March. This editor uses speedy deletions/reverts, supposed BRD style edits, which I experienced and discouraged me. The editor is also very particular about approving edits. I am concerned this editor is exhibiting behaviors that appear to be possessive of this page. I assume good faith on this editor's part and don't have any current disputes, however when I raised the OWN issue with the editor on the article's talk page, the editor did not reply. The editor eventually left a message on my user talk page telling me, it's not for the article's talk page, to WP:FOC, and talk to administrators about it on the appropriate boards. I reiterated WP:OWN says "An editor who appears to assume ownership of an article should be approached on the article's talk page with a descriptive header informing readers about the topic." and the concerns of overdoing possessive behaviors. Still the editor did not want to address the issue. What is the proper way to address this and what is the appropriate board to bring this concern to? Pride2bme (talk) 04:57, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    Pride2bme, this looks like a rather lengthy content dispute, so you could look at the processes in WP:DISPUTE. On the WP:OWN issue, can you give examples of WP:OWNBEHAVIOUR at the talk page? If not, you may have to assume good faith. TSventon (talk) 12:07, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    List of company articles by non-extended-confirmed users[edit]
    I am trying to get a list together of every enwiki article on a company written by a non-extended-confirmed user. (Or, by proxy, every Wikidata item that's an instance of a company with an enwiki article written by a non-extended-confirmed user). Is this technically practical to do? If so, how could I go about doing it?
    I don't have experience in these larger-scale sorts of queries, so my intuitions about what's possible and how it can be done are quite unreliable. I've dabbled a bit in Petscan but I don't think it has the capacity to query user permissions like that. My sense is this would require something like a Quarry query, but I don't know how to write those. – Teratix 11:31, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
