SPI

[edit]

Hi. You created the Superintendent of Public Instruction article. I just found it yesterday. Since nobody else has contributed to it, I want to just cut to the chase and ask you if you'd mind if I merged it with state education agency, since SPIs are part of SEAs duties and vice versa. Thanks for letting me know either way. – Freechild (BoomCha) 19:00, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good Idea! Please feel free to do so. --KeoniPhoenix 20:53, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New York versus New York City

[edit]

I agree with your recent edits to the article Hudson Valley with the exception of changing the state of New York to New York State. The name of the article IS New York, New York State is a redirect to that article. In addition the name of the state is "New York" not "New York State", no one refers to Missouri or Pennsylvania as "Missouri State" or "Pennsylvania State" (that would be refering to colleges if you did). When other articles on states are mentioned it is in the form of "the state of (so and so)" and it should be consistent across all states within the United States. New York City, while that is a common-use name is also not an official name, as the city is actually also New York (whereas cities across the country named for states such as Kansas City have the word city as part of their official name). Example- NYPD and FDNY not NYCPD and FDNYC. The post office recognizes only New York, New York as the official PO name as you can check by plugging in New York City or New York City, New York into their website "ZIP Code finder". Since in Wikipedia each article must have a distict title, by necessity it was (with great controversy still raging) for the state to take the New York name and the city to take the common-use name New York City. I know its picky but it is a pet-peeve of mine that gets under my skin. You are free to disagree since this is just my opinion that New York State should not be used and ignore me but I just thought it might be of some good to bring it to your attention since some people do really think that New York State is the real name of the state and New York City is the real name of the city. I do change New York State to the state of New York (or just New York depending on context of the paragraph and article) on any article I come across during my editing since the wikilink will not be affected. I dont wish to start even the appearance of an edit war so I will not change your New York State but do hope in the future that you dont change those type of edits I do on NY related articles. Hope I didnt offend you. Thank you.Camelbinky (talk) 03:00, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Huh? I don't understand the problem. My only edit to that article was to fix a problem with the code that displays the table of contents, it even says so on the edit summary. --KeoniPhoenix (talk) 07:10, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I take that back, after looking at the page history I must have done so, though I don't remember doing so. I do not remember why I did it, but I tend to prefer using official titles such has State of... myself. However I don't particularly worry about such an issue, if anybody wants to change it, they can feel free to do so. --KeoniPhoenix (talk) 07:27, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
