hi, sorry for interruption, could you please see to the NPOV of exclusion of Brazil from this article. It was there until a month ago, and some guys keep excluding South America and Brazil from what I believe is its just place (and I am not alone, since these previous edits were there long before, to include Brazil). thanks Perroot 22:05, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I've noticed your past interest in Wikipedia:Mind Benders and wanted to share the following announcement with you! I've taken over the responsibilities of Mind Benders, and the page will now be regularly updated. Right now, the pre-round is open (it's more of a creative artistic competition), and round one will open soon (the questions are done, we just need to wait for the pre-round to begin/finish)! So why not check it out? I'll keep you updated! Thanks, Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk 01:40, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

P.S. Feel free to pass this news on to other Wikipedians.

Thank you for your support of the Article Improvement Drive.
This week {{subst:IDRIVEtopic article}} was selected to be improved to featured article status.
Hope you can help.

Just wondering... the origami crane you learnt was the bird one, right? I wonder if it is possible to get one of those machinery cranes done in paper. ;) Oh, I just noted that you are on WP:IDRIVE South America too, that's very nice. It is a great topic and I hope will get to WP:FA. See you.-Poli (talk • contribs) 20:23, 2005 July 24 (UTC)

You have voted for South America on Wikipedia:This week's improvement drive a few weeks ago. Now Latin America is nominated. Hope you can help us again by voting for Latin America. --Fenice 08:02, 14 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Milena 5.jpg. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law. We need you to specify two things on the image description page:

  • The copyright holder, and
  • The copyright status

The copyright holder is usually the creator. If the creator was paid to make this image, then their employer may be the copyright holder. If several people collaborated, then there may be more than one copyright holder. If you created this image, then you are the copyright holder.

Because of the large number of images on Wikipedia, we've sorted them using image copyright tags. Just find the right tag corresponding to the copyright status of this image, and paste it onto the image description page like this: {{TAGHERE}}.

There are 3 basic ways to licence an image on Wikipedia:

  • The copyright holder gets the best protection of his work by licencing their work under an open content license like the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence. If you have the express permission of the copyright holder to licence their work under the above licence, use the image copyright tag: {{cc-by-sa-2.5}}. The GNU Free Documentation License is another choice for licencing one's work. Again, if you have the express permission of the copyright holder, use the tag: {{GFDL}}.
  • The copyright holder can also release his work into the public domain, see here for images released into the public domain.
    • Images from certain sources are automatically release into the Public Domain. This is true for most governments like the federal United States government. (See here for images from the government of the USA and here for other governments) However not all governments release their work into the public domain, such as the UK government (See herefor images from the UK government). Non-free licence governments are listed here.
  • Also, in some cases, an image is copyrighted but allowed on Wikipedia because of Fair Use. To see if this image qualifies and then how to tag it, see Wikipedia:Fair use.

For any other sources of for more information see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Please remember that if you don't tag your images, they will be deleted.

P.S. If you have uploaded other images without including copyright tags, please go back and tag them. Also, please tag all images that you upload in the future.

If you have any questions, just leave a message on my talk page. Thanks again. --Shanel 18:37, September 11, 2005 (UTC)

Well, I went to the South Park Studio website, and under the "copyrights" section it says you are allowed to use the images for personal use, provided you don't say you drew them. Plus, there's the fact you have to get the image from screenshot. I don't know what license covers that, so I've asked Bratsche. S/he's one of the regular participants in image tagging, and I'm just a newbie. If s/he answers me, I'll let you know. :)

Challenge yourself, and get ready to think!

Hello! Thank you for participating in Round Two of the Wikipedia:Mind Benders! The round will officially close on Friday, September 16, and round three (which is complete) will be open in the immediate days after that. A notice will be sent to you at least 48 hours before round three is set to open, to insure fairness. Round three offers 11 new exciting questions, this time written by Deryck C.. Please be sure to join in the fun! Also, congratulations to Riffsyphon1024 for winning our logo competition! Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk 20:30, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

All the round two participants were added to the list (it took me quite a while, but I entered everyone who participated into the list for the notification bot). As you can see above, the NotificationBot worked! This will definitely make my job easier; last time it took me quite a while to notify all 50+ people. Now, all I have to do is to change the message and the time the message will be sent. Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk 23:04, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please help on Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva

Hello! I recently noticed some edits by an IP 200.150.59.201 user on the English page for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. I identified some of them has not having neutral point of view and reverted a couple of them. However, he used the argument, "Obviously you're not from Brazil." So, I was hoping to recruit a Brazilian editor to review his edits and revert anything that is untrue or extremely biased, with more expertise than I could. Let me know if I should find someone else. Hello. Round four of Wikipedia Mind Benders will open on Thursday, December 1. This round will be drastically different from round three; part one will consist of a creative project, and part two will be developed from there. The full details will be released when the round opens. Time and speed should not be major factors in this round; thus, there is no exact opening time for the round as speed will not factor into the scoring. Thanks! Please create a Wiki bio for:

Simeon Piščević (Šid, 4 September 1731-Imperial Russia, November 1798) was a Serbian memoirist and Russian general.

Originally from the famed Serbian Paštrovici tribe, the Piščević family took their name from their own native village of Pišči. During the Great Migration of 1690 the Piščević family (in question) were soldiers in Austrian service. Simeon's grandfather, Gavrilo Piščević, was a light infantry officer on the Military Frontier dividing the Ottoman and Habsburg empires. Simeon's father Stevan Piščević was also a Military Frontier officer in the service of Empress Maria Theresa.

Simeon Piščević received his education in Šid, Novi Sad, Segedin, Osijek and Vienna. During the last two years of the War of the Austrian Succession (1741-1748) Stevan Piščević took Simeon, his son, along as a volunteer in the Slavonian regiment of the Austrian Army. Being well-educated Simeon became an adjutant in no time. At 17 Simeon was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in the Srem Hussar regiment. In 1749 General Jovan Sević gave him the rank of captain and ordered him to prepare to move to Russia. In the mid-eighteenth century, the demilitarization of the Military frontier of the Tisza River and Mures River districts compelled thousands of Serb frontiersmen to immigrate to Russia where they established a number of settlements, notably New Serbia and Slaveno-Serbia. A reorganization of Serb border militias in Slavonia lead to the immigration of a number of high-ranking officers who distinguished themselves in the Russian military service, Peter Tekeli, Semyon Zorich, Rajko Preradović, Jovan Horvat, Jovan Sević and Simeon Piščević, among many others.

Piščević received his Russian visa four year later (1753), but it would be another three years before he made the move. He first emigrated to Imperial Russia in 1756, ending up in the Russian Imperial Army.

All Serbian settlements were called "retrenchments" in the popular idiom, although only a few of them were fortified. Piščević wrote that such districts (oblast) as Hlyns'k, Kryliv and Kryukiv in today's Ukraine were the only fortified places in the Pandur regiment. Simeon Piščević left a most vivid description of General Jovan Horvat's broad use of powers. He refers to the latter as "our absolute and tyrannical ruler" and, sometimes with indignation, sometimes with envy for Horvat's versatility, quotes many episodes, shocking even to contemporaries, who were accustomed to the crude rule of singular power.

"The Diary of General Piščević" (Zapisi Djenerala Piščevića) which first appeared in Russian towards the end of the 19th century, was a model of Serbian eighteenth-century memoirist literature, and was ranked equal to the "Memoirs of Prota Matija Nenadovic" about the Serbian Uprising of 1804. Piščević tells about the Serbian migration to Imperial Russia, Serbian activities there, and his own role in this emigration. He also describes participation of Hungarian Serbs in the war between Austria and France in 1774-1775. He emphasized that the Islamized Turkish subjects in Bosnia are Serbs like all the rest, for they have the "Serbian language and traditions" ("jezik i obicaji srpski"), Piščević is using for his time modern terminology, and together with Dositej Obradovic, but earlier than Stevan Stratimirovic, Lukijan Musicki and Vuk Karadzic, and showing knowledge of the language spoken by the common folk. In the section on the Turks Simeon Piščević refers to the German geographer and scholar Johann Hubner's Kurtze Fregen aus der neuen und eaten Geographie (Regensburg und Wein, 1755). The other work by Simeon Piščević is "Knjiga o naciji srpskoj" (A Book About the Serbian Nation).
