Blood brain barrier penetration[edit]

I remember reading a study concluding that aspartame can penetrate the blood-brain barrier. A quick search didn't turn up the study I had in mind, but it did turn up this paper: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5617129/ - while the study in it about neurobehavoral effects would be considered a primary source and not usable here, the first part of that paper has an excellent overview of other studies that have been done for a variety of effects such as headaches and blood-brain barrier penetration, including citations to followup research and refutations. The sources cited in that paper might be valuable for expanding points made in the controversy section, as well as adding a paragraph about blood-brain barrier penetration requiring high doses of aspartame. ~Anachronist (talk) 05:46, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
