Irish TV station audience shares

[edit]

Hi there,

Just wondering where you got the figures. Do you have any for the other two Irish stations, RTÉ Two and UTV?

zoney talk 16:07, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I am particularly interested in UTV - because it has always been one of the more popular stations in the Republic despite its being based in NI (was it actually more popular than RTÉ Two for many years?). zoney talk 20:08, 11 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Wookieepedia Madness

[edit]

Hi there, I think the point is that it's not for you to decide unilaterally what is of importance to Wikipedia... Anyway never mind about that, I have merged a fair few of the articles (and thanks BTW for correcting my typos, there may be a few more around) (actually checking in MSWord "Subsidiaries" isn't a typo, but there probably are others) however I have to wait for consensus to emerge on some of them. Please don't let this put you off contributing SW stuff on Wikipedia, I'm sure once there are a few articles that group minor characters/planet etc then this will all blow over and the SW wiki and Wikipedia will co-exist peacefully :-) -- Lochaber 19:52, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Of course this won't do anything to prevent me from contributing new articles, but have you noticed how many there are that most people feel should be moved. When it comes to planets, there are dozens that could develop full articles, but to people outside the hardcore fans of Star Wars, they will appear unencyclopedic and they will Vfd them (refer to Rhen Var for an example of this). And so far the planet count is up to 234 on the list. No one would want all those planets floating around by themselves with articles on Wikipedia, but on SWW, ah, then it is most acceptable if that is to be the place for detailed info and new articles on minor things, irrevalent to the existing saga. All articles here that can stand on their own, will. But you wouldn't want an article on the Cowl Crucible here. Never heard of it? Exactly my point.
Btw, how can "Subsidiaries" be correct? It doesn't sound right. -- Riffsyphon1024 23:29, Mar 15, 2005 (UTC)
I realized my problem. I was saying "Sub-si-daries" instead of Sub-si-di-aries. -- Riffsyphon1024 07:05, Mar 21, 2005 (UTC)

Good work on the Star Wars related mergers I've seen. Keep it up! It makes closing VfD discussions so much easier when someone else has done all the heavy lifting already. :) You should be fine to keep doing that type of thing as long as you don't redirect the original article before the end of VfD. Cheers! --TenOfAllTrades | Talk 01:40, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Bowling for Columbine

[edit]

Hey, it's been a while since i've seen this film but I read your 'keep' on the Red Lake High School. You say that Michael Moore might make a movie about this but the film 'Bowling For Columbine' actually had little Columbine in it. Ah well, at least we both agree on keeping it. <by User:Foxcek>

  • Ah yeah I know, sorry, I was kind of just being flippant - though it did have the CCTV footage and they visited the bowling hall that the two allegedly went to. Anyway if Michael Moore were to make a movie about Red Lake it would probably actually be about the treatment of Native Americans in the USA or their treatment under Bush's government rather than the shooting. -- Lochaber 15:17, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
    • Yeah, that's true, I did find his documentary pretty fascinating although I don't want to take any biased side to it, there are a lot of things that say otherwise. -- Foxcek 15:18, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Planets TOC

[edit]

I like what you've done with the Table of Contents at Planets of Star Wars. This should have been the TOC used when the list started getting past 100 planets, however I was untrained in the ways of the Wiki. -- Riffsyphon1024 17:14, Mar 23, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks! I'm not that trained in the ways of the Wiki either so there might be an even better way of doing it. I know there are a few other TOC templates around, I just picked that one b/c I thought it looked best out of the ones I saw. -- Lochaber 18:03, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
I searched for them and found four. I used one of them for the planets article that was copied to Wookieepedia, and am in process of doing the same format to that. -- Riffsyphon1024 22:24, Mar 23, 2005 (UTC)

Babylon 5

[edit]

<from Seth Ilys talk> Hi there, I am thinking of extending the B5 template to link to the sub cats (races characters, episodes and ships) and creating a new sub cat called Babylon 5 cast and crew. Since you created the template and have done a lot of work on the B5 articles I thought it would be wise to ask your opinion. Also do you feel that this box should be on every Babylon 5 page? -- Lochaber 13:45, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Sounds fine to me. I actually don't touch those much anymore, and haven't in a year. Maybe I'll come back to them someday, but probably not in the near-term. -- Seth Ilys 14:05, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)
It has been done, thanks for the input. I thought it was best to be polite and ask just in case :-) -- Lochaber 16:57, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

lightsaber

[edit]

Hi, I answered your opinion on the talk:lightsabers. Try to talk about a page on the talk page, not on user's page, so everyone may join the conversation. It's ok to leave just a note on user's page as "hey, i got a question about lightsabers, take a look" --19:46, 12 May 2005 (UTC)

Indeed, I would have moved the discussion to the talk page after you answered however since you re-ordered it unilaterally I thought it would be best to question the issue with you first because well, no-one had seen fit to make the change before so it was reasonable to assume that the wider community didn't have a problem with having the fictional part first. Anyway, I will continue discussion on the talk page. -- Lochaber 09:20, 13 May 2005 (UTC)

Star Wars Major Races

[edit]

<from User talk:Saberwyn> Hi there, I'm not really sure why you moved the major races off the page as it's not a list of minor races only however no matter. I do however think that it might be good to leave a line or two at least about the race as there is at List of Star Wars races#Chiss, any chance you could do that? -- Lochaber 13:47, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia UK/Wikimania 2006

[edit]

Hi, this is a circular to Wikipedians in Ireland to draw your attention to Wikimedia UK, where the establishment of a local Wikimedia chapter for the United Kingdom (and possibly for the Republic of Ireland) is being discussed. See the talk page, as well as the mailing list; a meetup will take place to discuss matters in London in September, for anyone who can get there. On another topic, plans are being drawn up for a UK bid for Wikimania 2006, which would be conveniently close to Ireland. On the other hand, Dublin's bid was one of the final three last year - might we bid again? --Kwekubo 04:14, 31 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Comments in Edit History pages

[edit]

Hi Lochaber,

Can you tell me how I can put comments by my edits on the "history" pages (as I've seen you do?) Please post the answer on my talk page, if you would be so kind. Thanks!

ClintFord 21:09, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No problem ClintFord,
At the bottom of the editing box you will see box called "Edit summary", above the buttons for Save page / Show Preview &c., you just fill in what you have done in there. If you click on Edit summary you'll find more info, Edit summary legend is also useful. Hope that helps! -- Lochaber 14:58, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User Categorisation -- in case you're interested

You were listed on the Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Europe page as living in or being associated with Europe. As part of the Wikipedia:User categorisation project, these lists are being replaced with user categories. Hi. I know you're not Scottish, but you may still be interested in the new Scottish Wikipedians' notice board. I would particularly like to have your input to the debate just started on "foo-related stubs", because I think you have some experience in this area. See the Categories for deletion subsection at the new Scottish notice board.--Mais oui! 14:11, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Irish disambiguation page

[edit]

Hi, Thanks for your message. I moved the links the talk page as I was previously told in no uncertain terms that this was the way to do it, as I use to think the same thing as you about them (i.e. just a list of link repair). If you go to the page for "Chinese", you will see what I mean. The understanding of DAB pages I have now is, that they are for public users to help find what they are looking for and not to be just a long list of things with say "Irish" in it, if articles have a link to Irish, the articles should be corrected. I haven't completely removed all the link repair stuff, I've just moved them into the talk pages for the article where they can still be looked up. Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages) should explain it more clearly. If you want to move it back I wouldn't object as long as the link repair is somewhere, but quite a few other users may disagree with you. (Sloman 16:56, 10 November 2005 (UTC))[reply]

The original discusstion was not on the Irish page but about the Chinese page, which is a similar sort of disambiguation. For example a user searching for just "Chinese" is likely only to be looking for an article on the language or the people, or something or someone famous named Chinese. You can see the discussion at Talk:Chinese. If you feel strongly that the link repair stuff should go on the main page, I wouldn't object. I'm happy either way as long as I can see all the repair links somewhere. (Sloman 19:24, 10 November 2005 (UTC))[reply]

Just noticed you changed Family Guy to Num3ers, saying Family Guy was on TV3. I would just like to know, when? I don't recall them ever showing it. - RHeodt 11:43, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, TV3 were pretty good at hiding it on their schedule. It went out after midnight from Sept 2002 till around May 2003. -- Lochaber 20:53, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Work in progress, Fictional places of Eddings, would you help

[edit]

Hello Lochaber...Would you be interested in helping with an article/list about the fictional places of the works of the Eddings that I am currently writing in my user space? I really don't know what to do with it, but if you were willing to help me with it, that would be great! If no one thinks it is worth it, I will just get rid of it. Pop on over if you want. - LA @ 06:23, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
