Article Split Proposal

[edit]

Considering that Impact Wrestling is different ownership, branding, and presentation from TNA, Impact should be considered a successor promotion rather than a continuation of the same one. ECW and WCW for example have separate articles for both their original promotions and their WWE brands, even when WWE retained the brand names, contracts, similar presentations, championship lineages, and all rights and tape libraries. By comparison, TNA & Impact don't even nearly meet those criteria. I propose that the articles be split, with TNA's tenure from 2002-2017 being one article, and Impact Wrestling being considered a successor promotion from 2017 onward. Anthem's ownership is ostensibly a new company that only retains certain elements from the previous one. 2604:3D08:9582:900:8D83:CE69:F2C9:7944 (talk) 03:08, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. While it is true that there was a change in ownership and a new name and direction because of that, there is a greater continuity than not, and a continuous operation that is not really comparable to, say, ECW. It's an almost 20 year old promotion. There's going to be changes over time. We didn't split off the WWF from WWE, so I don't see the need to do that here. oknazevad (talk) 01:35, 10 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Impact WrestlingTotal Nonstop Action Wrestling – The return of the TNA branding has been announced starting in Hard to Kill 2024. KaiEnTai-DX-Fan (talk) 03:04, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wait until the event in question. DrewieStewie (talk) 07:06, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In case the company changes its mind? Serouj2000 (talk) 10:55, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not even that, @Serouj2000: It’s mostly the principle that it’s not official until Hard to Kill commences. DrewieStewie (talk) 15:49, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah Serouj2000 (talk) 19:03, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Impact WrestlingTNA Wrestling – Promotion going back to its old name, has already gone back to using the TNA name on their website Vjmlhds (talk) 23:22, 1 January 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Bensci54 (talk) 17:09, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Total Nonstop Action Wrestling The changeover has been made, and all advertising, websites, streaming app, etc, have taken on the new old name. Only thing that hasn't happened is the actual first event under the banner, which is only 12 days away.
And before anyone tries to bring up WP:COMMONNAME and WP:NAMECHANGES, it should be noted that a major part of the reason that they're reviving the TNA name (according to company president Scott D'Amore) is that the name was already still commonly used by the public even if they officially dropped it almost seven years ago. oknazevad (talk) 01:45, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum per LM2000's comments, we should spell out the acronym. oknazevad (talk) 20:33, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support: They have already changed the name on their website, web shop (ShopTNA), and streaming platforms (TNA+), and are in the process of updating the usernames of their social media platforms. The display names have already been changed. Mechanical Elephant (talk) 19:05, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So with all of this the page should be moved to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling by tomorrow or tonight. 556TNA (talk) 23:04, 3 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wait/Comment While subsidiaries of the promotion have already returned to using the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) name, like its website and streaming service, the promotion itself hasn't yet rebranded. This is occurring on January 13, and the name should be change to reflect that on January 13. Even the official IMPACTWRESTLING Twitter account states: "TNA is BACK on January 13 at Hard To Kill LIVE on PPV from the Palms in Las Vegas". (https://twitter.com/IMPACTWRESTLING/) This shows that promotion itself doesn't consider the name change to be official or consider TNA to be 'back' until January 13. Also, when the article name changes I feel that it should be to the promotion's full name "Total Nonstop Action Wrestling" rather than "TNA Wrestling". All major sports leagues have their full names as their article's title on Wikipedia. Dustin5StarMemphisoYeah0 (talk) 18:51, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Last night's episode of Impact was fully branded as TNA. Mind you, it was a "best of" show with historic highlights that were mostly from the original TNA period (one of the main reasons they are bringing back the name is that so much of the company's archive material already uses it), but they have actively and officially resumed the name. Hard to Lill is the first new event under the name, but that doesn't mean they haven't rebranded until then. No reason to wait. It just delays the inevitable because of a pedantry based on incorrect understanding of the facts. oknazevad (talk) 11:27, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I watched Impact! last night and Tom Hannifan literally said during the broadcast "Welcome to TNA Wrestling Impact!. Tonight Total Nonstop Action Wrestling returns." So, I completely change my mind on the name change. That is proof that the promotion is using the "Total Nonstop Action Wrestling" name prior to January 13 for company itself rather than just its subsidiaries. I now support changing the article name to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling prior to January 13. I also feel that an immediate move to the TNA Impact! name over at the Impact! article is also needed. Dustin5StarMemphisoYeah0 (talk) 14:45, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support either Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (1st choice) or TNA Wrestling (2nd choice). I don't think there's much utility in delaying the inevitable end of this process (which is to move somewhere; as D'Amore even said, the "TNA" name never went away) another week when they're already effectively prior to their first event under their new name. Sceptre (talk) 23:32, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support Yeah stop wasting time and just move the page the rebrand is official. 556TNA (talk) 18:09, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Obvious support; just about everything from their website to their social media has already flipped back to the TNA name. You could wait until Hard to Kill (it's only under a week away) or until the next episode of Impact to see if they use the TNA name on that show if you want, but it seems like it wouldn't hurt if you made the change before then. MushroomMan674 (talk) 19:51, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Next week's show I heard is a preview of Hard to Kill so they will use the TNA name no doubt, So just make the change now and get it over. 556TNA (talk) 20:15, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Well, today is the day, and the Hard to Kill pre-show is going on as I speak, so we might as well start ending the discussion. I would vote for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling by the way. MushroomMan674 (talk) 00:53, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Half Wait/Half Support Well, on one hand, the website has been re-branded as Total Nonstop Action Wrestling; their X account, (at)IMPACTWRESTLING, uses, as a profile picture, the TNA Wrestling logo; and as it's been pointed out by Dustin5Star, Tom Hannifan did indeed utter the phrase Welcome to TNA Wrestling Impact! on this past Thursday's Impact! episode as they were finishing up recapping Impact Wrestling in 2023. But, on the other hand, the bio section for their X account states TNA is BACK on January 13 at Hard To Kill LIVE on PPV from the Palms in Las Vegas.. So, honestly, I'd support either waiting until Jan. 13th OR changing the name of the article now. Now, as far as the article naming situation, I would support the stance of using their full name, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, as that's what's been done with other companies that haven't gone full abbreviation for their public branding (like how WWE did). ClarkKentWannabe (talk) 07:00, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, I would do it now considering that they have already rolled out most of the rebrand already and yes use the full name Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. 556TNA (talk) 15:39, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That’s because changing Twitter handles is just a massive pain. That’s literally the only reason they haven’t changed their Twitter/X 66.222.45.143 (talk) 22:54, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support Well, at this point, with Hard To Kill now over with, and the company full embracing the TNA (Wrestling) branding, I now fully support the article moving to the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling branding. ClarkKentWannabe (talk) 06:43, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Relisting comment: Various contributors suggested waiting until Jan 13 Bensci54 (talk) 17:09, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's time. Today is the day the page moves to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. 556TNA (talk) 10:25, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The move, to put it bluntly, got screwed up. It's clear the spelled out name should be used per article titling conventions and the clear consensus in the above discussion. The mover needs to fix the error. oknazevad (talk) 18:34, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Move page Impact Wrestling back to already existing redirected page TNA Wrestling 14 January 2024

[edit]

Move page Impact Wrestling back to already existing redirected page TNA Wrestling due to the company name Impact Wrestling being reverted back to TNA Wrestling aka Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). 2600:1004:B23D:AF19:0:25:E618:A001 (talk) 20:47, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I kinda did that, only using the full spelled out name, as that too was a redirect. Vjmlhds (talk) 04:03, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not do what essentially is a cut-and-paste move. – robertsky (talk) 06:17, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that based on majority vote, the page name was supposed to be spelled out in full as Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Why did we move the page to the abbreviated version (TNA Wrestling) despite multiple users (including myself) voting in favor of the spelled out version (which is also what the title page used to be prior to moving to Impact Wrestling)? Smackdowner6549 (talk) 20:27, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I've made inquiries about that myself. oknazevad (talk) 20:50, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And, I'm doing my best to help out with resolving the situation by backing up oknazevad's claim about what the article should be titled. ClarkKentWannabe (talk) 06:28, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
