Contribution to Northern soul

[edit]

From the lead: "Although she was never considered a Northern Soul artist in her own right, her efforts contributed a great deal to the formation of the genre as a result."

This is unclear. Presumably by "efforts" is meant her work, both recorded and otherwise? If so, that should be stated. Why "as a result"? Surely those words are entirely redundant - or is there some subtlety as yet hidden to me?

Presumably this observation, whatever it precisely is, ought to be made later in the article, too, and even expanded upon (insofar as the source allows), rather than left in the lead as it is. Harfarhs (talk) 11:12, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DS had absolutely no connection with the Northern Soul movement, though she was respected as a singer. --Ef80 (talk) 18:15, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Peggy Lee? Try Bobbie Gentry on Son of a Preacherman

[edit]

I'm not sure where the author got the Peggy Lee reference. It might be true, but the only evidence of someone recording Son of a Preacherman in 1969 was Bobbie Gentry, who had one of the more famous versions, and who isn't even listed in this page or the one for the song. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BHarveyMusic (talkcontribs) 18:04, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lead too long

[edit]

The lead does not conform to typical Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section because it is too long and detailed. What about four concise paragraphs as a canonical summary without so much detail in the lead? Eagledj (talk) 14:03, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. It's too much of a laundry list of recordings and releases. GA-RT-22 (talk) 04:15, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The whole article is full of fancruft, though it's well written and referenced.--Ef80 (talk) 18:10, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Death

[edit]

In my revision of 13:50, 1 September 2023‎ I added two citations after the sentence "St Mary the Virgin in Henley-on-Thames is an Anglican not a Roman Catholic church..." showing that St Mary the Virgin in Henley-on-Thames is indeed an Anglican church. The citations were to the Diocese of Oxford (of the Anglican Church). I clarified that the church itself was an Anglican Church, not if the funeral was Catholic or not. Given the name of the church, I feel that clarifying that the church is Anglican, and not Roman Catholic is completely appropriate. I did not have the knowledge of whether the funeral was Catholic or not, so I did not attempt to cite that. Please consider restoring "St Mary the Virgin in Henley-on-Thames is an Anglican not a Roman Catholic church,..." along with its citations. OceanGroveDave (talk) 17:03, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The issue is now resolved. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 18:16, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
